01The short version

Glowbeat collects nothing about you. No account, no sign-up, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. It talks to your bulbs over your home Wi-Fi, and your music never leaves your Mac.

02What is collected

No personal information. Glowbeat does not ask for your name, email address, or location, does not use advertising identifiers, and does not record how you use the app. There is no Glowbeat account and no Glowbeat server that holds anything about you.

03Your Mac's audio

For Party mode, Glowbeat listens to the sound your Mac is playing. macOS asks your permission first, under the name Screen & System Audio Recording, and you can turn it off at any time in System Settings.

The sound is measured in memory, on your Mac, while Party mode is on: how loud it is, and how much bass, middle and high it has. Those measurements become bulb colors and are then thrown away. Glowbeat never records, saves, uploads, or shares the audio itself. It does not use the microphone.

04Your home network

To find and control your bulbs, Glowbeat sends messages to them directly over your local network, the same Wi-Fi they're on. macOS asks your permission first, under Local Network. Those messages stay inside your home. Glowbeat does not contact Govee's servers, and it does not need Govee's cloud to work.

05Checking for updates

The downloaded app can check the internet for a newer version of Glowbeat. That check asks for a small update file and, like any web request, reveals your IP address, the Glowbeat version, and your macOS version to GitHub, which hosts the file. It sends nothing else: no bulb details, no settings, no audio.

06What stays on your Mac

Glowbeat saves your settings on your Mac so they're there next time: bulb names and order, your party style, colors and feel, and your wake and sleep times. There is no cloud sync. Deleting the app and its settings removes them.

07Third parties

Glowbeat contains no analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting code. Nothing is shared with, sold to, or received from any other company.

You set up your bulbs with Govee's own Govee Home app, which is separate from Glowbeat and covered by Govee's privacy policy, not this one. Glowbeat is an independent app and is not made by or affiliated with Govee.

08Open source

Glowbeat's code is public on GitHub under the MIT license, so anyone can check that it does what this page says.

09Children

Glowbeat is not directed at children under 13, and it collects nothing from anyone.

10This website

The Glowbeat pages on philwoolley.com have no analytics, advertising, cookies, or tracking scripts. The site is hosted by Vercel, which, like any web host, handles basic request information such as IP addresses in order to deliver the pages. The pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts.

11Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
