Set it up

  1. Back up your card. Save your project and shut the MPC down. Use an SD card that already works in your MPC Sample.
  2. Copy one folder. Unzip the starter and copy SD/autorun to the top level of the card, so you get autorun/autorun.sh at the root. If the card already has an autorun folder, move it aside first.
  3. Turn it on. Eject the card, put it in with the MPC off, and power up. DOOM starts on its own.

To go back to normal, quit the game, shut down, and remove the card. Your projects in MPC-Sample are never touched.

Free MP DOOM Kits

Two kits for your MPC. The MP DOOM Kit has eight drums I synthesized in that early-90s FM style plus eight game sounds. The Monster Kit is 16 roars, screams and death cries. I'll email both to you, along with how I built the port.

Questions

Does this change my MPC?

No. The game copies itself into memory and runs from there. Nothing is flashed or installed. Take the card out and restart, and you're back to the stock MPC.

Which GOG installer does the full game need?

The offline backup installer setup_the_ultimate_doom_1.9_(28044).exe from your GOG library. The setup reads it without running it. Other versions and GOG Galaxy aren't supported.

Do saves survive a restart?

Yes. Six save slots live on the card in MPC-DOOM/saves. The starter and Ultimate DOOM keep separate folders.

Does it work on other MPCs or firmware?

I've only tested the MPC Sample on firmware 1.3.0.12. If you try something else, open an issue on GitHub and tell me how it went.
